Dental Implants
WHAT ARE THEY
Dental implants are replacements to missing tooth/ teeth and represent an alternative to dentures or bridgework.
The advantages vary by patient and type of restoration but include improved chewing ability, better speech, more secure fit of restoration, greater comfort, and improved self esteem.
PROCEDURE
The implant itself is made of a titanium alloy, and is surgically implanted into the jawbone to function like the root of the missing tooth. It is allowed to heal for a period of 4-6 months to make sure that if firmly integrates with the bone. The implant is then uncovered and a restoration consisting of one or more replacement teeth is fabricated to fit on top of the implants. A titanium post, known as abutment, screws into the implant and helps attach the restoration to the implant.
In case of dentures, an implant-supported overdenture fits more securely than a conventional denture which rests on the gum tissue and offers no form of mechanical attachment.
The surgical part of implant restoration is performed by a surgeon that we will refer you to, but we take care of all the rest.
